Seminar on Protecting Consumers: Addressing the Threat of Smuggling and Counterfeiting
Wednesday, 8th April 2026|FICCI, New Delhi
Illicit trade, including smuggling and counterfeiting, poses a significant challenge with far-reaching economic and consumer safety implications. The proliferation of counterfeit and illegally traded goods exposes consumers to serious risks, including unsafe products and compromised quality, undermines consumer trust, and threatens public health. Through greater awareness, stronger enforcement, and coordinated action among government agencies, industry, civil society, and consumers, it is possible to curb illicit trade and safeguard economic stability and public well-being.
FICCI CASCADE has been actively engaged in raising awareness about the threats of smuggling and counterfeiting, highlighting its economic, social, and security implications both in India and globally. In response to this pressing issue and reinforce these efforts, FICCI CASCADE is organising a seminar on “Protecting Consumers: Addressing the Threat of Smuggling and Counterfeiting” on 8th April 2026 at FICCI, New Delhi. The seminar aims to provide a platform for meaningful dialogue and exchange of perspectives among policymakers, consumer activists , enforcement agencies, and other stakeholders on the growing risks posed by illicit trade and the collective measures required to protect consumers and strengthen market integrity.
The seminar will also underscore the important role of informed and vigilant consumers in combating illicit trade. By encouraging consumers to make informed choices, the initiative seeks to strengthen collective efforts to curb the spread of counterfeit and smuggled goods. Informed engagement and active participation from all stakeholders will be critical in safeguarding consumer interests, protecting public health, and fostering a fair and transparent marketplace.
