Siliguri: A day ahead of the second phase of West Bengal Assembly elections, police in Siliguri recovered fake currency and arrested one person. The accused has been identified as Shivaji Gupta, a resident of Jorethang in Sikkim.
According to police sources, acting on a tip-off on Tuesday night, plainclothes police personnel from Matigara Police Station along with the Special Operations Group tracked the suspect from a shopping mall in the Matigara area.
The team followed him and intercepted him near Himachal, Bihar. Upon searching him, police recovered 252 counterfeit notes of Rs 200 denomination, amounting to a total of Rs 50,400.
