The Bodakdev police arrested a father and son after seizing premium foreign liquor worth Rs 8.89 lakh from a bungalow in Gulmohar Green on Science City Road.
Acting on a tip-off, a team led by PI S.G. Khambhala raided the bungalow and recovered 200 bottles of premium foreign liquor and 48 beer cans. The accused, Kiran Bhatia (56) and his son Kavish Bhatia (23), an MBA graduate, were taken into custody.
Police said the duo had rented the bungalow two years ago but allegedly entered the bootlegging trade only three to four months ago after Kiran incurred debts estimated at Rs 10–12 crore following failed business dealings.
Investigators alleged that they sourced liquor from Haryana and sold it in Ahmedabad. Police are probing the supply chain, the frequency of smuggling trips and the network of customers.
