Warangal: Task force police, under the supervision of ACP A. Madhusudan and led by inspector M. Ranjith Kumar, conducted joint raids with food safety officials at the K & S Cool Drinks Distribution shop in Warangal on Wednesday. The team seized adulterated and expired cool drinks valued at Rs.33,568.
During the inspection, officials found nearly eight varieties of expired cool drinks that were stocked for sale. The shop owner, Mohammed Khaleel, 48, a resident of Parameshwari Nilayam, was taken into custody and handed over to food inspector Krishnamurthy for further investigation.
Police warned that stringent action would be taken against those selling unhygienic or expired food products. They said regular surveillance was being maintained on counterfeit and misbranded goods, including tampered popular brands. Offenders would be prosecuted under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and the 2011 Rules and Regulations, in coordination with the Food Safety Department.
