The food safety inspections in Uttar Pradesh were carried out in Gorakhpur and Gautam Buddha Nagar and discovered adulterated milk, paneer and drinking water.
The Uttar Pradesh Food Safety and Drug Administration recently conducted raids at factories producing paneer in Gorakhpur and units manufacturing packaged drinking water in Gautam Buddha Nagar. On May 26, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) shared a post on X, revealing that a large quantity of fake paneer had been confiscated and destroyed following food safety checks in Gorakhpur. Officials said 2,500 kg of adulterated paneer and 800 litres of contaminated milk were destroyed during the raids.
More than 10 samples collected from the units are currently undergoing testing. Authorities also seized large quantities of harmful substances, including synthetic colours and saccharin. For those unaware, saccharin is a white, crystalline artificial sweetener. The FSSAI has launched an investigation into the factories involved in the production of the adulterated paneer.
