
2.93 kg of gold seized from three passengers at Trichy airport
TRICHY: Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) sleuths seized 2.93 kg of gold in paste form from three air passengers, including a woman, who arrived at the Trichy airport from Kuala Lumpur on Monday night. The seized gold was worth Rs 1.43 crore.
Based on a tip-off, DRI officials screened passengers. They found the activities of the three passengers suspicious and detained them. The trio arrived in Trichy at 7.30 pm in Air India Express from Kuala Lumpur.
When officials intensified their screening operation, they found that the trio had attempted to smuggle gold in paste form. The passengers were identified as Malini, 38, of Karaikal and Kaleel Rahman, 42, and Rahman, 38, of Ramanathapuram.
They hid the gold in between their belongings. Malini had brought 1.100 kg gold, Kaleel carried 850 gram and Rahman 980 grams of gold. All three were arrested and further investigations were on.
