Officials from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) conducted a surprise raid at the Amazon and Flipkart warehouses in Tamil Nadu’s Tiruvallur, as part of an ongoing crackdown on uncertified products.
The operation, carried out by two teams from the BIS Chennai Branch Office on March 19, led to the seizure of 3,600 non-certified products from both e-commerce giants. According to sources, fake and duplicate products worth up to Rs 36 lakh were seized during the operation. The seized goods included insulated flasks, insulated food containers, metallic potable water bottles, ceiling fans, toys, baby diapers, casseroles, stainless steel water bottles, and insulated steel bottles.
The raids in Tiruvallur follow similar enforcement actions earlier this week in Lucknow, Gurugram, and Delhi, as authorities intensify efforts to remove substandard products from the market. BIS officials targeted items used by children, such as plastic bottles, food containers, and toys, ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
