Gold and electronic goods worth Rs 60.16 lakh seized at Chennai airport
CHENNAI: Air customs sleuths seized gold weighing 606 gram from a passenger, who arrived from Sharjah, and from the driver of a battery operated shuttle vehicle at Chennai airport on Sunday. The two people were arrested.
Following a tip-off, customs officials intercepted the passenger who arrived here in an Air Arabia flight on Saturday. A check revealed that he had hidden gold inside electronics. The passenger had concealed the gold in refurbished mobile phones, along with various electronic goods.
A total of 475 gram of gold was seized from a driver. The gold was handed over to him by an unknown passenger who arrived from Colombo in an Air India flight. Gold weighing 1.08 kg and electronic goods worth Rs 60.16 lakh were seized.
