Police recovered around 4,000 bottles of spurious liquor bearing labels of reputed India Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) brands from an illegal factory operating deep inside the forested areas under Bishnugarh police station limits in Hazaribag. During the operation, two persons were arrested, and an FIR was registered against 18 others allegedly involved in the racket.
The raid was carried out by a team led by Bishnugarh officer-in-charge Sapan Kumar Mahtha, who confirmed that equipment worth approximately ₹56 lakh was also seized from the site. The factory was reportedly involved in large-scale production and distribution of counterfeit liquor in the region.
According to Mahtha, the police recovered not only fake liquor bottles but also large quantities of spirit and hazardous chemicals used in the manufacturing process. An automatic liquor refilling machine, thousands of fake caps, and two pickup vehicles were also seized. The accused were affixing forged Jharkhand government monograms and brand labels on the bottles before supplying them to the market at premium prices.
