Customs officials have arrested airline staffer along with Bangladeshi national for allegedly attempting to smuggle 24-carat gold dust worth over Rs 2.1 crore.
Customs officers received specific inputs about a transit passenger attempting to smuggle gold and hand it over to an airport staff member in the departure area. The officials intercepted them around 12.10 am. The Bangladeshi has been identified as Akibur Rahman and the airport staffer as Bhusan Sakpal.
During the operation, officers recovered four pieces the gold dust concealed in wax, weighing 1,673.9 grams. The gold was recovered from Sakpal, who allegedly received the contraband from Rahman, who had arrived from Dubai on an IndiGo flight.
