The counterfeit Rs 500 notes were of high quality and closely replicated several security features of genuine currency, making them difficult to distinguish at first glance.
Mumbai Police have busted a counterfeit currency racket after seizing high-quality fake Rs 500 notes with a face value of Rs 10.64 lakh and arresting a man in connection with the case, officials said.
According to the Crime Branch, the counterfeit notes closely resemble genuine Rs 500 currency and may not be easy to identify at first glance. The case came to light after police laid a trap and detained a woman, from whom some fake notes were recovered. The investigation has revealed that the accused allegedly sold the counterfeit currency at twice the value of the genuine money received from buyers.
Based on information obtained during the investigation, police traced the accused man near Kurla and recovered a large quantity of counterfeit notes from him. Police said the woman and the man were linked and that she had obtained the fake currency from him.
