Mumbai: In a major crackdown on counterfeit goods, the Mumbai Police, in collaboration with representatives of EIPR (India) Pvt Ltd, raided a warehouse in Ballard Pier and seized a huge stockpile of fake toner and ink cartridges of reputed brands like HP, Canon, and Samsung, valued at over ₹25 lakh.
The action was initiated following a complaint by Gulfraz Abdul Karim Makarani, director of EIPR (India) Pvt Ltd, who has been associated with the company for the past 17 years. Makarani informed the MRA Marg Police Station that counterfeit refill toners, packed toners, MRP stickers, toner stickers, holograms, and other raw materials mimicking genuine HP, Canon, and Samsung products were being stockpiled in an office on the first floor of Shipping House building in Ballard Pier.
Acting on the tip-off, a police team conducted a late-night raid at around 11:55 PM on June 20. Inside the premises, they found Jaysukh Hari Rawadiya (33), who admitted that he owned the room and had been storing and selling counterfeit products for the past one year. He failed to produce any license or purchase documents for the products.
