An estimated P1.3 million worth of smuggled fake cigarettes were seized by operatives of the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group Tuesday in Quezon City, PNP-CIDG director, Brigadier General Romeo J. Macapaz said.
The official said members of the CIDG Anti-Fraud and Commercial Crimes Unit, joined by representatives from the Philip Morris Fortune Tobacco Corporation Inc. raided No. 53 V. Luzon Extension, Mendoza Street in Barangay Sangandaan, Q.C. where they recovered several counterfeit tobacco products.
Brig. Gen. Macapaz said that a suspect identified as alias ‘Angelo’ was arrested on charges of trading counterfeit and trademark infringement. During the raid, officers seized six master cases of Marlboro Red, five master cases of Fortune Menthol green, and 40 reams of Chesterfield Red P1.364 million.
