The Local Crime Branch (LCB) of Nagpur Rural Police arrested two persons for allegedly planning to circulate counterfeit notes printed in the name of a fictitious “Children’s Bank of India”. The total face value of the seized fake currency bundles was Rs 8.65 crore, police said.
The suspects were spotted travelling in a white car along the Nagpur-Wardha highway between Asola and Sawangi. When police signalled the vehicle to stop, the driver allegedly sped away in an attempt to escape. The team intercepted the car after a chase.
The two occupants, Afroz Khan Jamirullah Khan, a resident of Yavatmal, and Irshad Jumman Sheikh, a resident of Wardha, were apprehended. A thorough search led to the recovery of 2,300 bundles of counterfeit notes, including 1,500 bundles of Rs 500 notes, 350 bundles of Rs 200 notes and 450 bundles of Rs 100 notes, totalling Rs 8.65 crore in fake currency.
A case has been registered and both accused have been arrested.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the accused covered the top layer of the bundles with genuine Indian currency notes to make them appear authentic.
