
Assam: Fake currency notes worth Rs 26 lakh seized in Chabua
Tinsukia: The police on Monday seized fake Indian currency notes amounting to over Rs 26 lakh and arrested three persons, including a woman, from Chabua in Assam‘s Dibrugarh district.
The accused have been identified as Swarnlata Chakraborty, a resident of Tinsukia; Utpal Saikia, a resident of Bordumsa in Tinsukia district; and Bipul Gohain, a resident of Khowang in Dibrugarh.
Speaking with East Mojo, Chabua police station officer-in-charge Tulumoni Dwora said: “Based on specific inputs, we intercepted a bus and a motorcycle coming from Tinsukia and recovered fake Indian currency notes amounting to Rs 2.34 lakh in the denomination of Rs 200 and Rs 500 from the possession of three persons.”
“The trio were on the way to deliver the notes ahead of the festive season,” the official added. The motorcycle used by the accused has been seized by the police.
