Guwahati: A joint operation by Basistha and Jorabat police led to the seizure of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) worth over Ra 10 lakh at the Jorabat police checkpoint along the Assam-Meghalaya border on Thursday evening. The police also arrested persons in this connection.
The operation followed specific intelligence inputs regarding the illegal transportation of liquor across state borders. Police intercepted a truck (AS 01 RC 7957) en route from Guwahati to Aizawl in Mizoram, carrying a consignment of liquor.The truck was loaded with brands legally permitted for sale only within Meghalaya, making the cross-border transport of the consignment illegal in the absence of proper permits.
The Two persons were arrested during the operation have been identified as Kabir Hussain Laskar (23), the driver from Hailakandi district, and Milan Hussain Laskar (22), a handyman from Sribhumi. They couldn’t produce valid documents for the sale, purchase, or transportation of the seized liquor.
