Champhai (Mizoram) [India], March 26 (ANI): Assam Rifles, in a joint operation with Land Customs Station, Zokhawthar, recovered 491 foreign-origin e-cigarettes, four cases and 42 cartons of foreign-origin cigarettes, and 10 cases of Korean Soju in General Area Crossing Point III, Zokhawthar, Champhai district, Mizoram, on 24 Mar 2025, officials said on Wednesday.

According to a release, acting on specific intelligence on the presence of contraband, Assam Rifles, along with representatives from the Land Customs Station, launched an area domination patrol in Zokhawthar. Upon a thorough search of the suspected location, the joint team discovered a large cache of contraband near Crossing Point III.

As per the statement, Assam Rifles recovered contraband, valued at Rs16.43 lakh, which was handed over to the land Customs Station, Zokhawthar, for further investigation and legal proceedings.
Earlier today, Assam Rifles apprehended an individual and seized fake Indian currency worth over Rs 37 lakh in Assam’s Silchar district on March 25.

AHMEDABAD: Two passengers smuggling gold were apprehended by the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of the customs department on Sunday. The duo was found in possession of 3kg of gold with a market value of Rs 2.76 crore.

Based on intelligence inputs, the two passengers were intercepted and apprehended after they got off the flight from Abu Dhabi. “Both passengers were carrying gold in a plastic strip inside the waistbands of their jeans. The gold was in the form of a semi-solid substance mixed with chemicals.

In addition, the passengers were carrying two gold chains and one gold coin,” according to a release by the agency. The confiscated goods also included three 24-carat gold bars. The two passengers were arrested after they were found in possession of about 1.5kg of gold each.

Revenue has seized a major haul of contraband worth almost €570,000 across Dublin, the Midlands, Rosslare and Waterford.
The seizures, carried out by Revenue officers over the last week, included cocaine, cannabis, cigarettes, counterfeit runners and even weapons – one of which was a samurai sword. Other confiscated weapons included “tactical gauntlets” with throwing knives, smoke generators, a hunting knife and a flick knife.

Counterfeit goods meanwhile included everything from fake Adidas runners to Ugg Boots, as well Chanel, Hugo Boss and Christian Dior perfume.

In Waterford, Kilkenny and the Midlands more 19,700 cigarettes, with a value of approximately €17,800, were seized, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of €12,000. Almost 2kg of rolling tobacco, with a value of €1,715 and representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of €1,200, was also taken.

In a major crackdown, the Excise Department and the police in Sirsa uncovered a large network involved in liquor smuggling on Friday night. During a raid in the Rupana Bishnoian area, the authorities seized over 1,600 cartons of illegal liquor from an animal warehouse. Among those arrested was former Sarpanch Bansilal, along with four others.

The operation was carried out after Excise Inspector Surendra Kataria and his team received a tip-off. Acting on the information, officials conducted a raid, during which they also confiscated two trucks and a pickup vehicle loaded with illegal liquor. Additionally, they discovered liquor manufacturing machines, fake holograms, and counterfeit labels, which were being used to make fake liquor appear genuine.

MUMBAI: The state excise department busted a liquor duplication racket in Dharavi where fake Scotch, Johnnie Walker whisky was being produced and sold in bottles of high-end foreign brands. Police seized bottles of liquor, several empty bottles of various foreign brands, counterfeit labels, and other materials used to replicate authentic packaging worth Rs 5 lakhs.

Acting on a tip-off, a team led by Inspector Riyaz Khan and Santosh Shivpurkar raided a room in Shivshakti Nagar Chawl, Sant Kakaiyya Marg, Dharavi, and found a young man filling empty bottles of premium Scotch whisky brands with locally manufactured liquor. Upon inquiry, he identified himself as Aniket Dilip Kashid, 23, residing in the same locality. Kashid was taken into custody.

In a crackdown, officers from the Ludhiana East Range, under the guidance of Additional Chief Secretary Vikas Pratap, Excise Commissioner Varun Roojam and Additional Commissioner (Excise) Naresh Dubey, have exposed a liquor scam involving the refilling of empty bottles of premium Scotch brands with cheap liquor.

Acting on a tip-off, excise inspectors and police under the supervision of Dr Shivani Gupta, Assistant Commissioner Excise, Ludhiana East Range, along with excise officers Ashok Kumar and Amit Goyal, raided three locations at Jaspal Bangar, Lohara and Kanganwal, and seized a large quantity of illegal liquor.

The Detective Branch (DB) of Chattogram District police seized a total of 6,380 cartons of smuggled foreign cigarettes from the Aman Bazar area of Hathazari Upazila in Chattogram this morning (23 March).

The DB also seized a pickup transporting the cigarettes and detained two individuals in this connection. According to police, the market value of the seized cigarettes, of the brands Oris and Mond, is approximately Tk10 million.

Md Russel, Additional Superintendent of Police (Industrial Zone and DB) of Chattogram, confirmed the recovery saying, “Acting on tip-off, we conducted the operation and successfully apprehended two individuals along with the foreign cigarettes.”

The Chithode police seized 500 grams gold and 18,300 US dollars (₹15.73 lakh) from a man travelling in an omnibus to Coimbatore on Saturday.

Acting on a tip-off that a suspect involved in a robbery in Hyderabad was on the bus, the police intercepted it near Chithode on the Salem–Coimbatore National Highway and checked the passengers’ baggage. They discovered the gold and foreign currency in the possession of a man identified as Pugalavasan from Coimbatore. The police seized the bag and took him into custody. The Hyderabad police were alerted and further inquiry is on.

Kochi: Perumbavoor police seized 17 fake currency notes from a West Bengal native. The arrested person was identified as Selim Mandal, 30, of Murshidabad. He was residing at Mavinchuvadu, Perumbavoor.

The accused was arrested by a team led by Perumbavoor ASP Sakthi Singh Arya. Officers said that although the recovered notes contained a watermark and security thread, they were in the process of ascertaining if the notes were of high-quality category.

Police said that the accused has claimed that he received the money from selling a mobile phone in Murshidabad. However, the police have started an investigation into the source of the fake notes.

An alert about a theft that occurred on the train at Alappuzha led the police to Mandal. According to the police, a laptop and phone were reported stolen from the train.
