Madurai: Food Safety Department and police officials seized 124 kg of banned gutka, pan masala and other tobacco products across Madurai district in June.

A total of 6,616 shops were inspected, and 45 were found selling banned tobacco products. Of these, 39 shops were shut down.

Authorities said strict enforcement against the sale of prohibited tobacco products would continue and urged the public to inform the Food Safety Department or police about the illegal sale of such items.
