TUMPAT: Marine police seized 126,400 sticks of smuggled cigarettes worth more than RM250,000 during a raid at Kampung Kelaboran here yesterday.

Marine Police Force Third Region commander Assistant Commissioner Zulafendy Hassan said a local man was also arrested for possession of the contraband.

A team based in Pengkalan Kubor conducted the raid at around 2pm following a month-long intelligence operation. "The premises was being used as a storage facility for smuggled cigarettes. "A 42-year-old local man was arrested," he said.

He said the suspect and all seized items were handed over to the Tumpat district police station.
