Illicit trade is no longer confined to the shadows, it has become a sophisticated and global challenge that impacts communities at every level. The circulation of counterfeit goods, smuggled products, and unregulated commodities distorts legitimate markets, compromises public health and safety, and undermines the stability of economic systems. In a strategically located and economically vibrant state such as Goa, illicit trade has grown into a complex issue with implications that extend well beyond hidden or informal markets.
Addressing this complex challenge places law-enforcement agencies at the centre of the response. Police forces play a pivotal role in identifying, disrupting, and dismantling illegal supply chains. Their effectiveness depends on continuous capacity enhancement, access to updated intelligence, and exposure to modern investigative tools and techniques.
Recognising this imperative, FICCI CASCADE has been actively collaborating with enforcement agencies nationwide. Continuing this engagement, FICCI CASCADE is organising a capacity-building programme titled “Prevention of Counterfeiting and Smuggling” on 2nd February 2026 at GO’s Institute Hall, GRP Camp, Altinho, Panaji. The programme aims to deepen officers’ understanding of evolving illicit trade practices and provide practical, field-oriented approaches to tackle these offences more effectively.
This initiative reflects a collective commitment to building a safer and more transparent marketplace. By strengthening the skills and preparedness of the Goa Police, the programme seeks to reinforce the enforcement framework and enhance resilience against the increasingly sophisticated threats posed by illicit trade.
