Mumbai: Customs officials at the city’s international airport busted a gold smuggling racket and arrested two brothers for allegedly smuggling 3 kg of gold worth Rs 2.10 crore in connivance with a head hawaldar of the Customs department.
All three have been arrested. The arrested are Manish Valeecha, his brother Mukesh, residents of Ulhasnagar. The arrested head hawaldar has been identified as Suresh Kadam. The brothers who arrived from Dubai claimed they had no dutiable goods, but later admitted they had three pouches with gold given to the Customs hawaldar in the washroom.

Pune Merchant Faces Charges For Selling Fake PUMA Clothes, Seized Goods Worth ₹ 1 Lakh
In a crackdown on counterfeit products, the Hadapsar police have lodged a case against a cloth seller for allegedly selling fake PUMA brand clothes. The accused, identified as Sachin Gangadhar Narwade Patil, 30, was found selling counterfeit clothes with the PUMA logo, duping customers and causing financial losses to the company.
The complaint was lodged by Madhuri Verma, 39, a resident of Mumbai and an official of the PUMA company. According to the complaint, Patil was selling fake PUMA clothes, causing harm to the company’s reputation and resulting in financial losses.
The police have seized items worth ₹1,03,720 from the accused and have invoked the copyrights act against him. Further investigation is underway, said officials.
Assam police seize over 300 cartons of illegal foreign liquor in Bokajan during routine check
Assam police in Bokajan’s Khakarajan area, Borpathar, seized a large consignment of illegal foreign liquor during a routine check. The truck, traveling from Lakhipur, Guwahati, to Kahimal, was found transporting the liquor under the guise of food cartons.
The vehicle, registered as AS-01-JC-7426, was found concealing nearly 300 cartons of foreign liquor.
The driver, Phulchand Ali Mondal from Golakganj, Dhubri, has been arrested and is currently under interrogation as authorities continue their investigation.
Excise Department sources have estimated the market value of the seized liquor to be over 9 lakh rupees.

2 kg gold seized from passenger at airport
The Customs Department at Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport have recovered 2 kg of gold worth Rs 1.5 crore from a passenger, who arrived here, from Dubai. The department arrested the passenger and initiated further investigation into the matter.
According to information, the passenger arrived at the Amritsar airport from Dubai by a SpiceJet flight.
When department officials’ noticed suspicious activities of the passenger, they intercepted him. The passenger was served a notice under Section 102 for his personal interrogation. After thoroughly searching the passenger, 2,674 grams of gold was recovered from him.

More than 9,000 pairs of fake Nike runners among items seized by officials
Revenue on Monday put on display a selection of the more than 9,000 pairs of high-end counterfeit Nike-branded trainers which were found on a freight shipment from China earlier this month.
The estimated retail value of the 9,384 pairs, consisting of 30 different designs of runners, is €1,736,040 or €185 each if sold at full retail value.
Revenue officers at the Dublin Mail Centre (DMC) put some of the fake Nike trainers on display on Monday to illustrate the issue of counterfeit goods.
P21.2-M smuggled cigarettes seized in Albay; 9 nabbed
LEGAZPI CITY – Operatives seized at least PHP21.6 million worth of smuggled cigarettes and arrested nine suspects during a recent joint operation in the waters of Barangay Marigondon in Pio Duran, Albay.
In a report on Monday, Lt. Col. Malu Calubaquib, Police Regional Office (PRO) 5 (Bicol) spokesperson, said the operation on Nov. 21 led to the confiscation of 18,850 reams or 377 boxes of assorted imported cigarettes worth PHP21.2 million and a motorized banca marked “Susie” powered by a Mitsubishi 4D31 engine worth PHP400,000.
They were immediately turned over to the Bureau of Customs for documentation and disposition.

Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) seizes 3.8kg gold worth Rs 2.71 crore at Mumbai Airport
MUMBAI: The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) officers at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMI), Mumbai, seized gold with a gross weight of 3.976 kg valued at Rs 2.714 crore.
The seizure occurred during a covert operation targeting gold smuggling activities.
Acting on profiling-based intelligence, the AIU officers maintained discreet surveillance on a transit passenger who had arrived from Dubai and was scheduled to depart for Male.

Illicit cigarettes worth R1.6m seized, two Zimbabweans nabbed
24 November 2024– Two Zimbabwean foreign nationals aged 47 and 50, were arrested for being in possession of illicit cigarettes worth R1.6 million. The suspects were arrested but the Potchefstroom Crime Intelligence, Potchefstroom Flying Squad, and Ventersdorp Visible Policing during a crime intelligence-led operation 22 November 2024.
According to the North West police spokesperson, Colonel Amanda Funani, Ventersdorp Visible Policing received a tip-off regarding a suspicious Volvo Truck, that was traveling from Rustenburg to Gauteng Province. Funani said a follow-up was made, and the truck was spotted and stopped along the R30 road for a search.

DCA seizes wide range of stocked illegal medicines
Hyderabad: The Telangana State Drugs Control Administration (DCA) conducted a series of operations, targeting quacks, illegal drug stockpiling, and misleading drug advertisements across various districts in the State.
According to DCA, the officials raided clinics in various districts operated by unqualified individuals claiming to be rural medical practitioners. These quacks were found practicing medicine without the required qualifications, violating the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, and a wide range of medicines stocked for sale without the necessary licenses were seized from them.

Illegal liquor worth ₹7 crore seized in Pune since poll code came into effect
Pune district seized ₹7 crore in illegal liquor and took action against 1,042 people since the MCC took effect, with 25% of state seizures from Pune.
The Pune district has seized illegal liquor worth ₹7 crore and took action against 1,042 people since the 2024 assembly elections model code of conduct (MCC) came into effect, said official.
Pune district collector Suhas Divase said, “About 25 per cent of state’s total liquor seizure under the drive is from Pune. The exercise was conducted by excise department’s Pune district superintendent Vijay Suryanshi.
Action has been taken against 234 vehicles and most of the illegal stock came from neighbouring state Goa.”
