Customs seizes cigarettes valued at Rs 17 lakh
The Delhi Customs Department has recently seized over one lakh foreign cigarettes valued at Rs 17 lakh from a private logistics godown here, an official said on Sunday.
“The smugglers have adopted a new trend as the goods were hid inside iron trunks. Cigarette brands such as Gudang Garam and Esse Light were recovered from there. Upon suspicion, we checked the iron trunks inside which the cigarette packets were concealed,” an official said.
The Customs sleuths were trying to trace the receiver of the seized items.
One of them has been identified and will be served a notice. A case under Section 132 of the Customs Act has been registered against him.
