The Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) intensified drive against adulterated jaggery has begun to ripple across Maharashtra’s jaggery industry, forcing hundreds of production units to suspend operations and leaving thousands of tonnes of sugarcane unprocessed.
The latest disruption has been reported from Daund taluka in Pune district, where nearly 400 jaggery-making units have remained closed following recent FDA action against the manufacture of adulterated jaggery.
At the same time, jaggery production in Kolhapur district has also come to a halt, as producers react to the ongoing enforcement campaign being carried out across the state.
