In an anti-smuggling operation along the India-Nepal border, personnel of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) seized 2,025 litres of Nepalese liquor in Madhubani district on Monday. The operation was carried out by the 48th Battalion, Jaynagar, on the basis of specific intelligence inputs and drone surveillance.
According to SSB officials, a naka party deployed near Kamla Bridge, about 700 metres inside Indian territory from Border Pillar No. 270/6, spotted suspected smugglers attempting to bring liquor consignments from Nepal by floating rope-tied sacks along the river current during the early hours of Monday.
With the help of Kamla Barrage staff and local fishermen, the SSB recovered 45 sacks from the water. On examination, the sacks were found to contain 6,750 bottles of Nepalese liquor, each measuring 300 ml, amounting to a total seizure of 2,025 litres.
